Electronic Earmuffs

Electronic Hearing Protection can be divided into two main categories, products intended to improve communications in noisy environments and products intended to provide entertainment during work or play. Names like Noise Canceling Ear Muffs, Active Ear Muffs are terms sometimes used to describe this type of products. However, the technology used is not noise cancellation but rather different compression and filtration techniques.

Elvex React™, Com-100R

React Electronic Earmuffs

Elvex "React" ear muff with a built in FM stereo radio and communications circuitry offers the following features:

Hearing protection is the primary objective and React, Com-100R. It provides 25 dB Noise Reduction Rating
An electronic gain limiter limits the sound produced inside the headset to 82 dB
A sensitive stereo radio covers the wavelengths between 88MHz and 110MHz
The radio will automatically switch to mono mode when a weak signal is received
The Communications features of React allows you to have a close range communications in a noisy environment. The low and high frequencies are not processed and therefore the speech to noise ratio is improved, with maintained hearing protection integrity. Although this type of device is often referred to as an active headset, React does not use true noise cancellation technology.
The most advanced feature of React is that you can actually mix the communications and the FM reception, so that you can hear the background while listening to music.
The unit can selectively be put into one of three modes: communications mode, mix mode or FM Radio mode.
React is equipped with a balance control, allowing adjustment of left / right speaker balance
An auto off switch will turn off the headset after four hours of continuous use, to conserve battery use
React comes with a charger, allowing the unit to recharge overnight for 40+ hours use
The recharge port can also be used to connect other devises to the Com-100R, such as CD-players and communications radios.

Elvex Communications Ear Muffs, Com-55

Communications Earmuffs

Elvex Com-55 electronic ear muff offers all the communications abilities of the Com-100R shown above. The external microphones pick up the sound of the environment, but the electronics does not process frequencies below 400 Hz or above 4,000 Hz. The result is that the understanding of speech in a noisy environment is improved, since some of the noise is eliminated, but all the speech frequencies are processed. An electronic gain limiter limits the sound level inside the headset to a maximum of 82 dB. Impact sounds like gun shots and similar are eliminated by the electronic circuitry. Elvex Connect™, Com-25

Connect Earmuffs

If you already own a radio, CD player or portable tape deck, Elvex Connect will allow you to listen to music or other programming, and still protecting your hearing. Com-25 provides a Noise Reduction Rating of 25 dB, and is equipped with a gain limiter, that keeps the sound level at a safe level inside the headset.
